History of JR Memorial

JRThe J.R. Memorial ‘Cruise for a Cure’ at Indian Lake raises funds to fight cancer in the name of the late Jerry Richardson. Jerry was a long time resident of the Indian Lake community and was taken far too soon in 2013 due to malignant brain cancer. Since then a team of Indian Lake residents and volunteers have teamed with Lisa Cisco and Chris Quinn of the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer to follow in their footsteps to try to help cure this awful disease.

The event has grown year after year since its inauguration. In 2013 the team raised right at $3,000 in Jerry’s name for cancer research. In 2014 a check for $15,000 was presented to the Buckeye Cruise for Cancer / Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Hospital (OSUCCC-James).  2015 was another amazing year raising over $82,000 and engaging support from local volunteers such as the Indian lake football team.  Former OSU football great and NFL player Anthony Schlegel presented the equipment ‘The Difference: The Ultimate Striking Machine’ to Coach Dave Coburn and Coach Thomas Taylor for their valuable contributions.

Last year the J.R. Memorial ‘Cruise for a Cure’ at Indian Lake had yet another year of recording breaking success raising $131,000 to donate to cancer research at the OSUCCC-James.  All of this is due to the continued hard work, dedication, and generosity of the residents, businesses and community partners of Indian Lake and the surrounding areas!

Overall this brings our total donation within 4 short years to $234,000!!!  Without the help of sponsors and the Indian Lake community, it could not have been done and we look forward to another successful year!  We will not stop until we hear the words, “We have found a cure for cancer”!!!
